Serve Idaho joins leaders across the country in the ninth annual National Service Recognition Day, a nationwide bipartisan initiative to highlight the impact of national service in tackling local problems. The event was established to recognize the positive impact of national service, to thank those who serve and to encourage more citizens to give back to their communities.
More than 900 AmeriCorps members and AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers served in 100 locations across Idaho in 2020 providing support in their communities such as connecting homeless individuals to services, managing after-school programs, engaging youth in environmental education and serving as foster grandparents.
Idaho’s AmeriCorps programs are funded through Serve Idaho and by AmeriCorps, the agency.
As the federal agency for service and volunteering, AmeriCorps annually engages millions of Americans in service at more than 40,000 locations through AmeriCorps, AmeriCorps Seniors and other programs. National service participants serve directly with nonprofit organizations to tackle some of the toughest challenges facing the nation from disaster response, strengthening public safety and support for veterans, to tutoring and mentoring disadvantaged students.
