Southwest District Health Department to offer free Covid-19 vaccine shots
The number of Idaho employers looking for employees at an outdoor hiring event in Caldwell this week has grown from 70 businesses to more than 100 with 3,000 jobs to fill.
The four-hour event starts at 10 a.m. and will run until 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 19 at the GALS Quad softball fields, 4700 Skyway St., in Caldwell.
Large employers including Ada County, St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center, St. Luke’s Hospital, Amazon and Capitol Distributing are looking for electrical engineers, certified medical assistants, maintenance technicians, superintendents, security staff, warehouse associates, forklift drivers, custodians, customer service reps, landscaping staff and more.
Many of the jobs pay between $11 and $29 per hour and include benefits. Several employers are offering signing bonuses.
The Idaho National Guard will be on hand to set up a free Covid-19 vaccination station sponsored by the Southwest District Health Department.
Idaho is the first state in the nation to see nonfarm job growth recover to and exceed pre-pandemic levels. Seasonally adjusted nonfarm jobs were up 1.4% over March of 2020. Six industries showing the greatest job gains include financial activities (+9.4%) construction (+7%) and trade, transportation and utilities (+5.0%).
Registered nurses, retail and wholesale salespersons top the list of online job postings by volume. Computer and math occupations also represent a sizable share (6 percent) of all job openings. Some of the hardest-to-fill jobs include software developers and skilled trade jobs like production employees, maintenance and repair workers, and automotive technicians.
Caldwell’s outdoor hiring event is one of many job fairs scheduled throughout the state for the remaining weeks of May and are part of the state’s efforts to help Idahoans return to work.
The jobs offered in hiring events next week are in all industries and cover several occupations. For a full list of job fairs – both virtual and online – workshops and other job seeking activities, visit the department’s calendar of events at labor.idaho.gov/calendar.
