Canyon County sees increase in new job opportunities as its population continues to grow

Canyon County is the second most populous county in Idaho and experienced the third highest population growth rate over the last 20 years, according to Labor Economist Lisa Grigg.

“Canyon County’s high population growth results in the creation of new businesses and labor mobility opportunities for workers,” Grigg said.

The Idaho Department of Labor’s Caldwell office is hosting a job fair, Tuesday, Oct. 29, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. to help residents find work.

Oct. 30 webinar will educate Idaho employers on unemployment insurance tax compliance

Idaho employers are invited to learn about unemployment insurance (UI) tax compliance from the Idaho Department of Labor during a free Zoom webinar, Wednesday, Oct. 30, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. MDT.

UI Program Supervisor Eric Patera will discuss experience ratings, covered employment, corporate officers, independent contractors, accountable plan reimbursements and the employer portal.

Idaho’s September unemployment rate increases to 3.6%

– State first in nation for over-the-month nonfarm job growth at 0.7% –

Idaho’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 3.6% in September, up from 3.5% in August.

The state’s labor force increased by 4,019 people (0.4%) to 989,744 while the labor force participation rate — the percentage of people 16 years of age or older who are either employed or looking for work — increased from 63.1% to 63.2% between August and September.

Total employment increased by 3,184 (0.3%) to 953,973 as unemployment increased by 835 (2.4%) to 35,771. Continue reading

Webinar will highlight apprenticeships for women in advanced manufacturing, Nov. 7

Idahoans interested in advanced manufacturing will learn how a registered apprenticeship can provide a pathway into the industry during a free Zoom webinar Thursday, Nov. 7, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. MST.

The Idaho Department of Labor and Apprenticeship Idaho are hosting the webinar in honor of National Apprenticeship Week and Women in Apprenticeship Day.

A panel of guests will share their experience and knowledge of the advanced manufacturing industry, with a special focus on opportunities for women.

Over 30 employers look for workers at Post Falls hiring event, Oct. 16

There are approximately 1,500 open job postings in Kootenai County from 560 different employers.

“The top five industries looking to hire qualified candidates include administrative and support services; ambulatory health care services; hospitals; food services and drinking places; and lastly, professional, scientific and technical services,” Labor Economist Sam Wolkenhauer said.

Many employers will connect with job seekers at a hiring event Wednesday, Oct. 16, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Real Life Ministries. The address is 1860 N. Cecil Road.

Tuesday webinar will discuss the contributions small businesses make in Idaho’s labor force

Idaho Department of Labor Economist Lisa Grigg will highlight data from industries representing the state’s smaller businesses at a free webinar Tuesday, Oct. 8. These businesses maintain one to four employees and account for over 60% of statewide employer accounts.

The presentation takes place from 11 a.m. to noon MDT over Zoom.

Grigg will also explore recent growth patterns of these businesses compared with larger establishments, the strengths and risks of being a smaller business and the contribution they make to Idaho’s labor market.

Twenty employers look for qualified candidates at hiring event, Oct. 8

Employers in the health care, finance, retail, construction and other industries are looking to hire Idahoans at a Boise hiring event, Tuesday, Oct. 8.

The event will be held from 2 to 4:30 p.m. in the conference room of Building 6 at the State of Idaho Chinden Campus. The address is 11351 W. Chinden Blvd.

“Attending this event gives job seekers the chance to connect with diverse employers, explore career options and gain insight into what skills companies are seeking,” Workforce Consultant Joe Goitiandia said. “It’s an opportunity to discover new paths and make valuable connections in today’s competitive job market.”

Idaho’s August unemployment rate remains at 3.5%

The state’s labor force increased by 3,851 people (0.4%) to 985,722 while the labor force participation rate — the percentage of people 16 years of age or older who are either employed or looking for work — increased from 62.9% to 63.1% between July and August.

Total employment increased by 2,983 (0.3%) to 950,781 as unemployment increased by 868 (2.5%) to 34,941.

Free hamburgers and job opportunities available at Caldwell’s hiring event, Sept. 26

The event is from 3 to 6 p.m. at the department’s Caldwell office, located at 4514 Thomas Jefferson St.
